The chapel was developed at first of the sixteenth century, in honour in the Roman martyr who guarded the inhabitants from epidemics and calamities. In 2002 town Council granted the gold shield in the municipality to the Virgin, in commemoration with the V Centennial of Villafranca de las Marismas.
